Book of Origins rules

Registration of adult cats rules

Breeding rules

1.    Cats must be fed, accommodated and looked after according to the requirements appropriate for their breed and according to the laws current in the country of residence of the breeder.

2.    The kittens’ sire and dam must have received an Excellent certificate or Champion certificate in adults class (at 10 months) in the Federation or the club chosen by the owner before being registered for breeding by CCEU.

3.    A sire or dam who has reproduced before receiving the Excellent certificate can have temporary pedigrees, CCEU-PROVISOIRE, for their kittens which is valid  for ten months. Kittens can be sold with their temporary pedigree and the change of ownership must be recorded in the standard way.

4.     The missing show certificate must be sent to Secretary before the kittens are ten months old so that their provisional pedigree can be transferred to the CCEU-LO or CCEU-RIEX and the kitten can be registered as a breeding cat. It is enough to send a transfer form with the temporary pedigree and the missing show certificate of the parent and ask for transfer into LO- or RIEX pedigree.

5.     Should this procedure not be followed, a final pedigree CCEU-RIEX will be established for the kittens over stamped “Not to be bred from " and no offspring can be registered in the Book of origins of CCEU.

6.     Only three litters will be registered per queen in 24 months in CCEU’s Book of Origins (LO and RIEX). Any exception must be accompanied by a veterinarian’s certificate. CCEU can suspend the registration of the queen for a definite or indefinite period of time.

7.    In case of doubt on the cleanliness of the cattery and regard for the Good Breeding Practices by a breeder, notably in case of high feline population, an inspection of the cattery can be carried out by a veterinarian or a controller of the breeder’s area. The expenses of this visit will be carried by the breeder. In the case of refusal, the GBP certification by CCEU can be suspended for a definite or indefinite period of time.

8.    All the kittens born to cats registered by CCEU must be registered in a recognized register, whether it is CCEU or another one. When recorded in a register other than CCEU, a copy of the pedigrees of all the kittens will be sent to CCEU, within 30 days of the transfer of kittens to a new owner.

9.    Matings to grand-parents are allowed.

10.    Matings between half siblings (half-brother and half-sister) is allowed where the parents who are not the common parent have different blood lines.

11.   Back-cross (mating to parent) is allowed when there is a different blood line on each parents side. The offspring may not be backcrossed again.

12.    Mating of brother to sister is not allowed.

13.    The first 3 generations must contain at least 10 different cats.

14.    In case of birth of kittens not corresponding to these criteria, the pedigrees will be over stamped "Not to be bred from". No offspring of these kittens will be registered in the CCEU Books.

15.   The buying of kittens with the intention of reselling them in order to gain profit is forbidden, as well as animal traffic and selling kittens to research laboratories or pet shops.

Penalties

The concealment of diseases for which there are reliable and indisputable validated tests, deliberate deception of the buyer or the secretary of the register of the CCEU about the identity of the cat, the forgery of documents, the lack  of  respect for the dignity of the animal, or cruelty, the abuse of other breeders or judges, acts regarded as unethical or subject to penalty under law, can lead to a warning or to an immediate suspension of the GBP certification by CCEU for definite or indefinite period of time according to the severity of the offence.

Rules of CCEU’s Book of Origins

1.    CCEU General Secretary writes LO and RIEX pedigrees which are only valid with his signature and CCEU seal.

2.    Kittens whose previous ancestors for three generations belong to one and the same breed are registered in the Standard LO Book of Origins.

3.    Kittens with one or more other breeds within the previous three generations of ancestors are registered in the Experimental Book of Origins of CCEU-RIEX, the registration number indicates this fact.

4.    Rule 3 also applies when there are less than 5 ancestors known on any Pedigree (foundation cats).

5.    As soon as the cat with CCEU-RIEX pedigree has obtained an Excellent certificate in an adult class of a specific standard, the owner can ask for transfer of the CCEU-RIEX to CCEU-LO pedigree. It is enough to fill in a form requesting the change of registration from CCEU-RIEX to CCEU-LO by sending a copy of the certificate of judgment and the original pedigree of the cat to CCEU.

6.    In case of doubts about the standard of the cat, photos or examination of the cat can be requested by the regional technical commissioner or a veterinarian appointed by CCEU. Expenses are to be met by the breeder.

7.    The registration in the Book of Origins is made according to the phenotype of the cat. If the genotype does not correspond to the phenotype, the breeder can ask for a RIEX registration under color X and ask for a confirmation of the colour, at a show, by a federation or club chosen by him. These changes can result in a correction on the pedigree form from CCEU-RIEX  to CCEU-LO by joining a copy of the judges certificate and the original pedigree.

8.    The General Secretary helped if necessary by a special technical committee, decides on the responses to be given to special requests about registrations in the Books of Origin.

9.    Any unauthorised alteration on the pedigree outside the area for show results leads to it’s immediate cancellation and the cat declared “Not to be bred from”

10.   Offences against these rules can cause a temporary or permanent suspension of the certification of the CCEU’s Good Breeding Practices.
